Dexter Vaness Johnson Jr., at the age of 44, was called to his eternal rest on April 22, 2024. Born in Sarasota, Florida, on August 29, 1979, he was the beloved son of the late Rena Nicole Baker and Dexter Vaness Johnson Sr. Dexter shone as a source of joy and charm within his family and community, affectionately nicknamed “Sexy Dex” for his captivating smile and charisma. Raised by a loving community, prominently including his Aunt Michelle “Mimi” and Sam Shields, he was shaped into the compassionate and vivacious man he was known to be. Dexter attended Booker High School and graduated from Tallahassee Community College, where he was known as a multi-talented individual and a jack of all trades, excelling effortlessly in various endeavors.

Dexter, a true enthusiast of life, cherished spending time with family and friends, savoring a variety of foods, and being an avid sports fan. As a devout Florida State supporter, he never missed the chance to root for his team. His love for his children—Isha, Lauren, and Dexter Johnson III—was profound, cherishing every moment with them. They, along with his brothers Alexis (Sherene) Moreland, Rodney Hugan; sisters Erica Nicole Diamond Hall, Tysha Campbell; and numerous loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, will dearly miss him.

Dexter was the epitome of admirable qualities: boundless love, a resilient spirit, and ceaseless generosity. His dazzling smile could brighten any room, and his deep care for those around him was evident. He will be cherished for the immense heart he offered to his friends and family. His love for them was genuine—if you knew Dexter, it was unmistakable; he was a beautiful soul, through and through.

Dexter was predeceased by his parents, Rena Nicole Baker and Dexter Vaness Johnson Sr.; his maternal grandparents, Lawrence Baker and Willie Jewel Baker; his paternal grandparents, Sally Mae Wilson and Freddie Butch Johnson; his aunts, Christina Poindexter and Geraldine Baker; and his uncle, Lawrence Baker II “Jr.”

Survivors include his children, daughters, Isha Michelle Johnson, Lauren Alice Johnson; son, Dexter V. Johnson 111; brothers, Alexis Moreland(Sherene), Rodney Hugan; sisters, Erica Nicole Diamond Hall, Tysha Campbell (Sherene),  nieces, Kalani, Kayla; nephews, Amari Moreland, Austin Moreland, Christopher Lawrence Lopez, Rodney Jr., Jaheim, Chance, Kayden, Tyshawn; aunts, Michelle Shields, Yolanda Hadley, Debria Johnson-Seabrook, Kelly Johnson, Elnora Jones, Tonya Parker, Lori Baker, Connie Williams, Cha’wana Tucker( Fred), Diane Baker; and uncles, Danny Preston, James Baker(Felicia), Carlton Baker (Brenda), Henry Ford, Danzell Baker, Jeffrey Baker, Jeffrey Lamb and Anthony Wilson (Teal).
As we bid farewell to Dexter, we honor his life and the lasting impact he had on us all. His legacy of kindness, love, and joy will endure, inspiring and touching our hearts. His loved ones find solace in the belief that he now rests in eternal peace with his beloved parents.
