Ms. Lucy M. Hawkins-Newkirk born 08/06/1942 in Vienna G.A. Graduated from Howard High in Ocala Fl. Class of 1961. Lucy was a devoted Christian. Lucy was a rising Basketball Star at Howard High. She worked at National Linen for many years before becoming a School Bus Driver for Sarasota County School Board, where she served her community as a dedicated school bus driver safely transporting and caring for countless children, many of whom she treated as if they were her own. Lucy retired after 18 years of Service.
Above all she was a loving mother and grandmother whose heart and home were always open. She loving raised two of her grandchildren as her own, creating a legacy of unconditional love that continued to grow as she became a great-great-grandmother to three beautiful great-grandchildren. She also had a passion for travel and was blessed to visit many different countries, embracing new cultures and experiences along the way.
Lucy was predeceased by her Father: Emmanuel Harrison of Ocala Fl. Mother: Willie May Harrison of Vienna G.A., Daughter: Debbeye Pyandra Allgood of Bradenton Fl., Sister’s: Faustin (lil Girl) Harrison of Vienna G.A., Rose Mary Jacobs-Simmons of Palmetto Fl.; Brothers Emmanual Harrison Jr. of Palmetto Fl. & Ex-Husband Joe Louis Newkirk of Sarasota Fl. of whom Lucy was married to for Many years.
She loved to dance and had a special appreciation for rhythm and blues music, often filling the room with her joy and spirit. Lucy found joy in life’s simple pleasures and the people she loved most. She enjoyed fishing, watching sports, and was a devoted fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, proudly cheering them on every season.
Lucy leaves to cherish her memory Daughters: Lucita Dover of Ft. Pierce Fl., Grandchildren: Pyandra Allgood, Michael Wilson, Tamara Fluellen, Avery Carty, Deyandra Allgood-Sutton, Teyandra Allgood-Simmons, Miyah Allgood, Trasandra Allgood Simmons. Great-grandchildren: Shaquan Leverett, Omar Sabor, Ash’Shfi Sabor, Tabari William, Aneesah Allgood-Turner, Terrance Daughtry Jr., Justice Sutton, Talijah Fluellen, Feliciah Crittendon, Takiyah Michell, David Foster, Michael Wilson Jr. Gret Great Grandchildren: Blessence A’Shia Sabor, Novi Shai Leverett, Kha’Lessi Leverette, Fisrt Cousin-Don Hollomon of Fort Myers. And a Host of Nieces & Nephews, Relatives & Friends. Lucy was a loyal and cherished friend; she gave her love freely and touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
