Mrs. Dorothy P. Loyd

Mrs. Dorothy P. Loyd, 94, of Ruskin, FL answered the Heavenly Father and his son’s call on Tuesday, November 8, 2023. She was born on January 19, 1929, in St. Augustine, Florida, to the late George and Gertrude Papino.  Dorothy was the oldest of eight children.  She attended schools in St. Augustine, FL, intil her parents moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where she completed her education.

Dorothy was married to Sam Loyd in 1944, out of this union 11 children were born.  She worked at the Veterans’s Administration in East Orange, New Jersey, until she moved to Sarasota, Florida in 1970. Dorothy worked as a Private Duty CNA, in Sarasota, FL until she died.

She was a devoted member of the House of God Church, where she received Christ at an early age. Dorothy was an ordained Deaconness in the church, and she worked in various positions within the church, Sunday Bible School teacher, Choir and Missionary Department; whatever job her hands found to do to help lit others up.

Dorothy had a genuine love for people, so no one was ever a stranger to her. She loved to have people over to eat and fellowship.  Her table always seemed to have enough room to feed anyone that stopped by (unexpected or not).  No one left Dorothy’s home hungry.  You also never left her home without praying.  Ot was a standard joke among her children, MOM welcomes everyone in, but you’re not going to get out without praying.  You could call at any time, and she was ready to pray with you and for you.

She leaves to cherish her memories:

• Her sister, Shiirley Middlebrooks;
• Her children, Edward (Janet) Loyd, Julia McDowell. Sharron (Reginald) Fant, Mary(Robert) Kirk, Sam (Lexlie) Loyd, Jr, Phillip (Uli) Loyd, Papino (LaTonya) Loyd, Eric (April) Loyd,
• Adopted children, Karen Daughtry, Louis Elmore, and Reginald Elmore;
• Daughter- In- Law, Preval Loyd, three honoree daughters-in laws, Dorothy Jackson, Elain Loyd, Cheryl Loyd-Sykes;
• 50 Grandchildren,
• 96 Great Grandchildren
• 39 Great Great Grandchildren
• 3 God Children, Denise Evan, Robert Clarke, Bem Pinkney,
• and a Host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
