A service of reflection for Matthew Brian Greene will be held from 5:00 – 7:30 PM, Thursday, August 25, 2022, at Fellowship of Believers Church, 3333 12th Street, Sarasota, Florida.
“Our Matthew” was born on April 17, 1982 and went home to Heaven in the early morning hours on Sunday August 14, 2022. He gallantly fought as a Jedi Knight through months of extreme pain. Matthew passed to his eternal rest peacefully, in his sleep holding his Mama’s hand. In his final days, he was surrounded continually by his Sarasota, Carolina and Virginia family. Our Matthew was a very gentle and kind man who showed love and mercy to so many. We are learning more everyday how many peoples lives he touched. We are so blessed to have had you spend your days with us “Matty Blue.” You will always be #1 as you so humbly reminded your siblings on a regular basis. You are greatly missed and forever loved. Our hearts are broken, but our lives are so much richer because of you.
Matthew was a self-taught incredible guitar player and songwriter. He loved all of his band years playing shows and touring with his band members. He was an avid gamer and taught and played with people all over the world. Matthew worked for Starbucks for many years. He had a very special gift with children and they all loved him.
Matthew loves his family deeply and nothing brought him more joy than family time. He always made time for his siblings, nephews and nieces and all the little ones in his life. Matthew has left behind his parents Sara(Mama) & Kevin Grottick and Steve & Vanya Greene; brothers Seth, John-Christian, Trevor and Trenton and sisters Lindsay, Michelle & Kara; nieces Haley, Lilly, Adaline and Savannah; nephews Jacob, Gabriel and William. Matthew’s Aunts, Uncles and Cousins poured out their love upon him, making several trips from up north to spend time together. They added so much joy to his life and he had a special bond with them. He was his Mama’s first true love and that bond of love will endure forever. Matthew always wanted to make his siblings proud of him. He loved you all so very much. You always knew how loving and gentle he was, but you got to witness his strength and will to live in the end. We all learned so much from his loving warrior spirit.
We are so thankful for all of our family and friends for pursuing and contending for Matthew’s healing with us. He is now fully surrounded in God’s grace and his whole heart is healed. We are extremely grateful to Dr. Mark Ledbetter and all the doctors, nurses and techs at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa for their pure love and care.
The scripture that Matthew grasped in his final weeks is Psalm 91……
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust”
Our last words:
“We love you more and we will see you in the morning Matthew”💙
