Born on May 24, 1956, in Memphis, TN, Tyrone Deener was the son of Charles and Armentha Deener. A fervent Christian, he belonged to the Trinity Christian Fellowship Center. Educated in Memphis’s public schools, he earned his degree from Lane College in Jackson, TN, in 1980. His career spanned roles at Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Sarasota County Parks and Recreation, Sarasota YMCA, and McIntosh Middle School, roles he valued for their youth engagement.
Tyrone was a devoted father to three sons and three stepsons, a caring brother, and a sociable friend. His enthusiasm for coaching football, basketball, baseball, and track shone through his motivational words to his players, with endearing terms like “come on cupcake,” “come on marshmallow,” and most tenderly, “son.” Recognizing a coach’s profound influence on young athletes, he dedicated himself to mentoring. His legacy lives on in Tyrone’s Kids, the baseball camp he established to prepare young athletes for team sports.
Tyrone was predeceased by his parents, Armentha and Charles Deener. He is remembered lovingly by his wife, Natalie Deener; his sons, Khnum Sba (previously Tyrone Deener), Tyson Deener, and Tyrelle Deener of Sarasota, FL; his stepsons, Myron Browning, Walter Calvin, and Mederios Dennie; his siblings, Larry and Tony Deener, and Shirley Deener-Macklin (Johnny), all from TN. His grandchildren, Lyric Deener, Tyrone Deener, Jr., Jah Deener, Amon’Ra Sba, Ast Sba, Khnum Sba, II, Tyson Deener, Jr., Tori Deener, and Miniya Browning, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends, also hold his memory dear.
