Mrs. Ruby Fletcher, 85, of Sarasota, Florida, peacefully answered the Lord’s call from labor to reward on Monday, November 20. 2023. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, 6-8 PM at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Sarasota, FL 34234. Ruby Mae Fletcher was born on September 27, 1938, to the late Clarence and Mary Etta Toombs in Mora, GA. Ruby transitioned peacefully and entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
On March 1,1957, she said “I do” to the late Rev. Clarence L. Fletcher. They were married 57 years before his passing. Of that union, they bore four children. The family relocated to Sarasota,
Florida in 1960. She was a devoted wife and mother. She took care of the household. She loved animals and took care of them over the years. She was lively and could often be heard singing praises to her Lord. She loved furiously and prayed often. She had many natural talents, which she used to bless others.
The family joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. At the church, Sister Ruby was very active, putting her talents to work. She used her ability to create things to design floral arrangements for the church on numerous occasions. She served as a deaconess, teaching Sunday School and ushering. She sang with the choir and served on other committees in the church.
She continued to work with hands by designing many of the hats she wore. She was a seamstress and would reupholster furniture. She also did some housekeeping work in her spare time. She loved to go fishing throughout her life. As time went on, she became the main caregiver for her husband.
Family members preceding her death were her brothers, John Toombs, Fred (Jimmie Lois) Toomgs, Benny Toombs, Clarence (Jacqueline) Toombs, and Frank Toombs, and one sister Barbara (Roosevelt) Jenkins.
Ruby is survived by her children: Rev. Wayne (Jackie) Fletcher, (Sarasota, FL), Rev. Wendell (Pauline) Fletcher (Prince George, VA), Wade Fletcher (Sarasota, FL), Beatrice (Clement) Fletcher-Miller (Sarasota, FL); 6 Grandchildren, and 9 Great-Grandchildren; sister, Maryann(Myral) Hicks, and a host of nieces and nephews, and cousins.
